ActiveNote 4.0
Philosophy
In the beginnig, I programed ActiveNote for myself, cause I needed an utility which helps me to develop other programs.
But, from the first code-line, I wrote the program as I like to see all programs to be.
Perhaps, that was the thing other users liked to get, too, and cause of that, my ActiveNote was so succesfull.
The main parts of the my philosophie of good programs, integrated in ActiveNote, are as following:
- 100% Freeware: You are allowed ActiveNote to copy and distribute the program totaly free, everyone, who want to use it, can do that without paying any cent, if you don't like the program, you can trash it without worry. Many positive reactions told me, that I'm one the right way.
- All-In-One: Everything, you need for running the program, should be in one file. (It's much easier to distribute). Since version 3.1 ActiveNote does consists of only one file, again.
- No installation: You have to test and use a program very quikly, that means that ActiveNote is installing itself (in the background), when you start it the first time, so you do not need any extra installation-routine.
- Clean deinstallation: If you deinstall a programm, you like to find your system-configuration, as it was before. ActiveNote does not only deletes all files and registry-entrys, for example, but recreates also old file-assosiations while deinstalling.
- Windows32-Support: A program should work optimal with it's operating system. ActiveNote uses the Windows 95/98/NT- specific features, as, i.e., TNA, file-assosiation, automatic deinstallation or the "New"-entry of the Windows-GUI.
- Full downward compatible: A program should also read/write files, which were created with former versions. ActiveNote reads and writes all files downto version 1.0!
- Internet-Integration: Today, the internet is a part of many persons' daily live, so a software should support it optimal. ActiveNote is able to send eMails by MAPI or directly by SMTP, reads and writes HTML-files sporadicaly and contains a online-update-function.
- Multilingual: No program should stop at the language-border. ActiveNote does support a english/french/german user interface as standarf and can be translated theoretically in every language.
- Open configuration: The program should work for the user and not the other way round - Every user should configure his program as he needs it. ActiveNote contains two free placeable, free configurable tool-bars and you can change every setting.
- Network-Support: Especially utilies are needed by many users of an network. ActiveNote can be placed (by the sysop) on a read-only network path to save disk-space and stop version-errors.
- Documentation/Support: You have to get a good description for every program, and if you need some help, you should get free support. ActiveNote creates an extensive Readme-File at the first time, you run it and provides an FAQ on the Internet. For more questions, you can mail me anytime.
